President Rodrigo Duterte is not closing his doors on inking a defense alliance with Russia.

"If the situation in all over the world [gets worse], I will not be forced, but I will be open to defense alliance. Because it is only Russia and China who can be reliable," Russian news agency Sputnik quoted Duterte.

The President had an interview with Russian media on the eve of his week-long trip to Moscow where he slammed the United States for its double talk.

"America is double talk. The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. So there will always be a problem, there will always be misconceptions and probably a dislike, if not hatred for one another," he added.

In an interview with Russian international television network RT, Duterte also accused the European Union of double talk.

"I have nothing against America, we are perfectly alright. [US President Donald] Trump is my friend. But my foreign policy has shifted from that of pro-Western. I now have this working alliance with China, and I hope to establish good working relations with Russia. Why? Because the Western world, EU and everything, they have this double talk," he said.

Duterte left Davao City for Moscow on Monday at around 4 p.m.

In his predeparture statement, the President said that his official visit will correct the Philippines’ overdependence on traditional partners.

He is expected to meet with Russian leaders on Wednesday and Thursday.

During a high-profile trip to Saudi Arabia, the first excursion out of the U.S. of his administration, President Donald Trumptouched a glowing orb of the Earth on Sunday alongside Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

Maybe Trump didn’t think about the optics on this one.

It’s actually a ceremonial gesture to mark the opening of the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, but when reduced to a single, still image, it looked quite a bit more bizarre than that. The image sent Twitter into a full-blown meme-frenzy, with countless people slinging jokes about Trump’s dedication and devotion to “the orb.”

Needless to say, Trump’s throngs of supporters who spent the campaign bellowing “America First” and “Make America Great Again” probably never expected to see him grasping a glowing orb alongside a pair of Middle Eastern dictators, his face eerily lit from below by its mysterious, enchanting glow.

And yet, there he is, touching the orb with a strange, muted expression on his face. It just goes to show that no matter how many bridges Trump seemed to burn during his campaign―and as far as Islam is concerned, he burned a lot of them―he can still be brought into the fold by a mysterious orb seemingly brimming with arcane power.

Trump still has stops in Israel, the Vatican, Belgium, and Italy on his itinerary before he finally returns to the United States on May 28. Whether any of those countries will do the smart thing and plan their own power orb ceremonies remains to be seen.

SEOUL, May 21 (Reuters) - North Korea fired a ballistic missile into waters off its east coast on Sunday, South Korea and Japan said, a week after it tested an intermediate-range missile which experts saw as an advancement in the reclusive state's weapons programme.

The missile was launched at 0759 GMT from a location near Pukchang, 60 km (36 miles) northeast of the capital Pyongyang, an area where North Korea attempted to test-launch another missile last month but failed, South Korea's Office of Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.

The missile flew about 500 km (310 miles), it said. Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said the missile landed outside Japan's exclusive economic zone and no damage to ships or airplanes was reported.

An official traveling with U.S. President Donald Trump in Saudi Arabia said the White House was aware of the launch and noted that the missile had a shorter range than the three previous tested by North Korea.

China had no immediate comment while both South Korea and Japan called emergency meetings of top officials.

"The flight range was 500 km and South Korea and the United States are closely analysing additional information," South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

It was the second missile test by North Korea since South Korean President Moon Jae-in took office 11 days ago. The two sides remain technically at war despite a truce ending their 1950-1953 conflict.

Last Sunday, the North tested-fired an intermediate range missile that flew further and higher than those previously tested.

Moon won this month's election on a platform of a moderate approach to North Korea and has said he would be willing to go to Pyongyang under the right circumstances, arguing dialogue must be used in parallel with sanctions.

North Korea has defied all calls to rein in its nuclear and missile programmes, even from China, its lone major ally, calling them legitimate self-defence.

It has been working to develop a nuclear-tipped missile capable of striking the U.S. mainland.

On Saturday, it said it had developed the capability to strike the U.S. mainland, although Western missile experts say the claim is exaggerated.

"The U.S. mainland and the Pacific operational theatre are within the strike range of the DPRK and the DPRK has all kinds of powerful means for annihilating retaliatory strike," North Korea's state KCNA news agency said in a commentary on Saturday.

North Korea's official name is the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
SEOUL — Any day of the week, the North Korean propaganda machine can be relied upon to spew out anti-American vitriol using some formulation of “imperialist” and “aggressor” and “hostile.”

The Kim family has kept a tight grip on North Korea for some seven decades by perpetuating the idea that the Americans are out to get them. From the earliest age, North Korean children are taught “cunning American wolves” — illustrated by fair-haired, pale-skinned men with huge noses — want to kill them.

Kindergartens and child-care centers are decorated with animals holding grenades and machine guns. Cartoons show plucky squirrel soldiers (North Koreans) triumphing over the cunning wolves (Americans).

“North Koreans live in a war mentality, and this anti-American propaganda is war-time propaganda,” said Tatiana Gabroussenko, an expert in North Korean propaganda who teaches at Korea University in Seoul.

The thing is: there is some element of truth to the North Korean version of events. It’s only a kernel, and it is grossly exaggerated, but North Koreans remember very well what most Americans have forgotten (or never knew): that the Korean War was a brutal one.

‘Utter ruin and devastation’

“Korea is called the forgotten war, and part of what has been forgotten is the utter ruin and devastation that we rained down on the North Korean people,” said John Delury, a professor in the international relations department at Yonsei University in Seoul. “But this has been ingrained into the North Korean psyche.”

First: a little history.

The Korean Peninsula, previously occupied by Japan, was divided at the end of World War II. Dean Rusk — an Army colonel at the time, who went on to become secretary of state — got a map and basically drew a line across at the 38th parallel. To the Americans’ surprise, the Soviet Union agreed to the line, and the communist-backed North and the American-backed South were established in 1948 as a “temporary measure.”

On June 25, 1950, Kim Il Sung, installed by the Soviets to lead North Korea, decided to try to reunify the peninsula by force, invading the South. (Although in the North Korean version of events, the South and their imperialist patrons started it.)

The push south was surprisingly successful until Gen. Douglas MacArthur landed his troops on the mudflats at Incheon, sending the northern troops back. Then the Chinese got involved, managing to push them back to roughly where they started, on the 38th parallel.

All this happened within the first six months or so. For the next two-and-a-half years, neither side was able to make any headway. The war was drawn to a close in 1953, after exacting a bloody toll.

“The number of Korean dead, injured or missing by war’s end approached three million, 10 percent of the overall population,” Charles K. Armstrong, a professor of Korean history at Columbia University, wrote in an essay. “The majority of those killed were in the North, which had half of the population of the South.”

But the war ended with an armistice, not with a peace treaty. That means that, to this day, North and South Korea remain in a technical state of war.

Making the war ‘a most unpopular affair’ for the North Koreans

American military leaders at the time called the Korean War a “limited war” because they did not let it expand outside the Korean Peninsula. But on the peninsula, it was total devastation, particularly for the North.

The United States dropped 635,000 tons of bombs in Korea, not counting the 32,557 tons of napalm, Bruce Cumings, a University of Chicago professor who’s written several books on North Korea, wrote in “The Korean War: A History.” This compared with 503,000 tons in the entire Pacific theater in World War II.

“If we keep on tearing the place apart, we can make it a most unpopular affair for the North Koreans,” Defense Secretary Robert Lovett said after the napalm and aerial bombing campaigns of 1950 and 1951, according to Cumings. “We ought to go right ahead,” Lovett said.

Rusk said the United States bombed “everything that moved in North Korea, every brick standing on top of another.” After running low on urban targets, U.S. bombers destroyed hydroelectric and irrigation dams in the later stages of the war, flooding farmland and destroying crops, former Post correspondent Blaine Harden wrote on these pages in 2015.

Air Force commanders complained that they’d run out of targets.

“The physical destruction and loss of life on both sides was almost beyond comprehension, but the North suffered the greater damage, due to American saturation bombing and the scorched-earth policy of the retreating UN forces,” Armstrong of Columbia wrote.

Fueling the North Korean narrative

The Kim regime keeps its people afraid by constantly blaming the United States for its situation, especially sanctions for its economic plight. But this also helps it unify the populace against a supposed external threat.

“Anti-Americanism is an ideological tool of the government,” said Peter Ward, a North Korea researcher affiliated with the Asan Institute for Policy Studies in Seoul. “They need an enemy and a villain to blame for the division of the country, a scapegoat for the situation they are in.”

When the United States loses, it’s more likely to become the bogeyman, Ward said. “Look at Vietnam. Americans used much more napalm on the Vietnamese, but they’re on good terms today."

As tensions between North Korea and the United States have escalated in recent months, the North has turned up the volume on its propaganda machine, in addition to launching a series of missiles.

In response, President Trump has repeatedly threatened to use force to punish North Korea (although he has also said he’d be “honored” to meet Kim Jong Un.)

“When a new and untested American president starts dangling out the prospect of a surprise missile attack as the solution to the North Korean problem, it plays directly into their worst narrative that the regime tells its people,” Delury said.

And the worst narrative is bad.

From the very real events of the Korean War, North Korea’s propagandists have created a version of history that is designed to keep the shock and horror alive more than six decades later.

North Korea’s discourse on the Korean War — called the “Victorious Fatherland Liberation War” in North Korea — was constructed according to Soviet propaganda used against Nazi Germany during World War II.

“North Korea’s propaganda writers were educated in the Soviet Union,” said Gabroussenko, who grew up in the Soviet Union.

Russia perceived itself as being attacked by Germany in what it called “The Great Patriotic War,” she said. “So, according to the North Korean version of the Korean War, they were also fighting a great patriotic war against American intruders.”

Take the Sinchon Museum of American War Atrocities south of Pyongyang, one of many museums in North Korea designed to keep the regime’s narrative alive. It recalls what North Korea says was a massacre carried out by U.S. troops.

There was fighting and death in Sinchon during the Korean War, but North Korea is widely held to have vastly exaggerated them with its claim that some 35,000 “martyrs” were killed by U.S. soldiers during a massacre there.

This is one of what Ward calls the “fake atrocities” that North Korea has created to bolster anti-American nationalism.

Kim Jong Un has visited it several times since he became leader at the end of 2011. During a visit after a major expansion of the museum in July 2015, turning it into “a center for anti-U.S. class education,” Kim celebrated “the victory day when the Korean people defeated the U.S. imperialists.”

“No matter how crafty the U.S. imperialists become in their moves to cover up their crimes, they can never erase the traces of massacre of Koreans left in this land,” Kim said, according to a state media report.

He also ordered his cadres to “intensify the anti-imperialist and anti-U.S. education.” The Korean Central News Agency reported in March, that “more than 18,000 service personnel, working people and youths and students visited the museum” in the first 10 days of the month, “their hearts burning with the resolution to punish the U.S. imperialists and the South Korean warmongers.”
President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday (May 19) said the United States would collapse one day because of conflicting values and agenda resulting from its “multi-racial” character.

In a speech in Davao City, Duterte again lambasted the US State Department for criticizing him and his controversial war on drugs.

“Ang problema sa Amerika minsan hindi ang President, it’s the State Department, which is really multi-colored. Saksakan sila d’yan. That’s why America will really collapse one of these days, maybe in 50 to 100 years, because of its multi-racial thing. Kanya-kanyang insert ng values eh,” Duterte said.

(The problem with America is sometimes it’s not the president, it’s the state department, which is really multi-colored. They’re all crammed in there.hat’s why America will really collapse one of these days, maybe in 50 to 100 years, because of its multi-racial thing. Each of them tries to insert their own values.)

Under former US President Barack Obama, the US State Department, then headed by John Kerry, had expressed concern over the killings in Duterte’s war on drugs.

Obama got a mouthful from Duterte, who told the US leader to go to hell as he was irked by the admonition from Washington.

Ties between Manila and Washington improved when Donald Trump came to power. Unlike Obama, Duterte said the new US leader supported his war on drugs.

Still, this did not stop the US State Department under Trump from raising concerns over extra-judicial killings linked to the war on drugs.

Nearly 3,000 drug suspects have died in presumed legitimate police operations in Duterte’s campaign against illegal drugs. Out of 9,432 homicide cases from July 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017 or the first 9 months of the Duterte administration, 1,847 have been found to be drug-related, with 5,691 cases under investigation.

Duterte said the sudden shift in tone of the US under the two administrations was an example of “double talk.”

“P****g i***g America na ‘to, one time insultuhin ka, another time (it’s different). Bakit ganoon na lang ang dadaaan mo? It’s double talk — different motives, different entities. But it’s double talk,” he said.

(This son of a whore America, one time they’ll insult you, another time… Why do you have to go through that?)

“That’s why I said, when I was interviewed last night over Russian television, that’s what I don’t like about America.”

As he keeps a more critical view toward the US, the Philippines’ defense treaty ally, Duterte has sought warm relations with China and Russia, including seeking help in procuring arms and securing economic and trade deals.

His government says the decision to seek warmer ties with non-traditional allies is in line with Duterte’s pursuit of an independent foreign policy.

TOKYO -- Tensions are rising dangerously on the Korean Peninsula as North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump square off.

While North Korea has threatened to conduct a new nuclear test in defiance of mounting international criticism, the Trump administration has ratcheted up pressure on Pyongyang by warning that all options, including use of military force, are on the table.

Japan cannot afford to sit on the sidelines. If North Korea continues provoking tensions on the Korean Peninsula, the Japanese government will face the daunting task of evacuating nearly 60,000 of its citizens currently in South Korea.

Some 38,000 Japanese are now living in South Korea as long-term visitors, such as businesspeople. In addition, some 19,000 Japanese are staying there as tourists or other short-term visitors.

The Japanese government is poised to protect its citizens in the troubled region, monitoring the situation closely and classifying dangerous developments into four levels.

Level 1

The first -- and the lowest -- level of the four-tier alert system applies to situations in which Japanese nationals could be harmed.

For example, if a North Korean terror plot in South Korea is uncovered in advance, the Japanese Foreign Ministry will advise citizens via its website and elsewhere to voluntarily refrain from non-essential and non-urgent travel to South Korea.

By doing so, the Foreign Ministry will hopefully have reduced the number of short-term Japanese visitors should an emergency occur.

Level 2

Four-tier alert system aims to keep citizens in South Korea informed, safe

The second level applies to situations where Japanese are at greater risk than they are in Level 1 situations.

During Level 2 situations -- for example, if North and South Korea exchange fire -- the Foreign Ministry will urge its citizens not to travel to South Korea.

As for Japanese nationals already in the country, the ministry will call on the elderly, women, children and the infirm to return to Japan as soon as possible, according to the ministry's Consular Affairs Bureau.

Level 3

In more dangerous Level 3 situations, such as if the U.S. carries out a limited air strike on North Korea, the Foreign Ministry will immediately urge Japanese nationals to evacuate.

Japan will dispatch embassy staff in South Korea to local airports to help its citizens evacuate by commercial flights. If none are available, the government will consider chartering planes.

The Foreign Ministry's evacuation recommendation is now in place for Syria following the recent U.S. missile attack on a Syrian air base.

The ministry also issued an evacuation advisory for South Sudan in July 2016 in response to an escalation in fighting between government and rebel forces.

At the time, the Japanese government sent three Air Self-Defense Force transport aircraft to neighboring Djibouti to prepare for the evacuation of Japanese from South Sudan. The government-affiliated Japan International Cooperation Agency also flew a charter plane to evacuate its staff and some other Japanese from the country to neighboring Kenya.

Level 4

The fourth -- and highest -- alert level applies to the most dangerous situations, such as a large-scale North Korean counterattack that prompts South Korea to close domestic airports due to its inability to ensure the safety of commercial aircraft.

During Level 4 situations, the Foreign Ministry will ask Japanese nationals staying in South Korea to take refuge at local shelters or stay at home. Once the crisis subsides, the embassy and others will urge its citizens to flee to more distant and, presumably, safer areas.

Evacuating Japanese from the country by ship from Busan, a port on the southeastern-most tip of the Korean Peninsula, is also considered a likely option.

While preparing for a possible emergency in the region, the government is calling on the public to remain calm.

"If a conflict becomes more likely, there should be some signs of that, such as the families of U.S. troops in South Korea evacuating. We have no immediate plans to raise the crisis (alert) level. We want the public to respond calmly," said one government official.

Allies' cooperation

The basic policy of the government's evacuation plan is to help as many Japanese nationals as possible evacuate to Japan before the security situation seriously deteriorates.

But there is no guarantee that all Japanese in South Korea could be evacuated in time. If the situation boils over, Japan will have to seek help from the U.S., especially from its military forces stationed in South Korea.

Since Japan is a likely destination for U.S. nationals also fleeing South Korea, the Japanese government will ask the U.S. military to preferentially transport Japanese nationals as well.

But Japan and the U.S. have never conducted a joint evacuation drill assuming a military contingency. The big question is whether the two countries will be able to work together smoothly while avoiding confusion.

As a last resort, Japan will also consider utilizing the Japan Coast Guard and aircraft of the Self-Defense Forces, among other measures. This means that transport aircraft and vessels of the Self-Defense Forces could be dispatched.

The enactment of national security-related bills in September 2015 has made it possible for the Self-Defense Forces to not only transport but also rescue Japanese nationals living abroad. In doing so, members of the Self-Defense Forces will be allowed to use arms under certain conditions.

Japan will need to get prior consent from South Korea to dispatch its troops to the country. But many in South Korea are cool to the idea of having Japanese troops in their country, as they would be reminiscent of Japan's wartime occupation.

Observers are unsure whether consultations between Tokyo and Seoul on this matter will proceed smoothly.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday brought up the threat of illegal drugs as he urged ASEAN economies to invest in the youth during the opening plenary of the World Economic Forum on ASEAN in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Duterte reminded his audience, which included prime ministers from Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, about the potential of the ASEAN youth and their vulnerability to illegal drugs.

"The ASEAN youth are among the best and are most creative, intelligent, and innovative in the world. We must empower them to be the best version of themselves," he said.

"But we cannot turn a blind eye on the scourge of illegal drugs that threatens our youth and the future of our societies," Duterte added. "We need to take a committed stand to dismantle and destroy the illegal drugs trade apparatus. We must reaffirm our commitment to realize a drug-free ASEAN community."

Duterte said investing in the human capital should be a priority considering that ASEAN was turning into an economic powerhouse with its young population.

"Most importantly, we should invest in human capital. Analysts point out that the Philippines, together with Southeast Asian countries, is a demographic sweet spot and is likely to post Asia’s fastest economic growth rates in the coming years,” he said.

"The youth is certainly a key sector that we must invest in. The ASEAN Work Plan on Youth 2016-2020 encourages youth entrepreneurship, employment, and employability awareness, volunteerism, and resilience. The plan deserves our full support," he added.

Duterte's war on drugs has been criticized locally and internationally, with human rights advocates linking it to thousands of killings of drug suspects, either by the police or by vigilantes emboldened by his rhetoric about ridding the country of pushers.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday lashed out at United Nations special rapporteur Agnes Callamard and the American doctor, who supposedly cast doubt on shabu's ill effects on a person's brains.

Duterte said Callamard and "that black guy" should go on a honeymoon.

"She should go to a honeymoon with that black guy, the American... I will pay for their travel. They should be together and discuss between... silang dalawa," Duterte replied when asked about Callamard's tweet.
Duterte didn't mention the name of the American but was apparently referring to Dr. Carl Hart, who Callamard quoted in her tweet over the weekend.
Duterte said that if shabu had no adverse effects, he would readily make it available for Filipinos.

Duterte even said that there was also no scientific evidence that shabu was not virulent.

“They have prejudged shabu and announced --- ewan ko kung scientific na it is not … It is not a virulent chemical. ‘Pag ka ganon, wala na tayong pag-usapan. Bakit mo ako idemanda diyan sa ICC kung kayo mismo anak ng p—ina, sinasabi na ninyo na ‘yung shabu hindi nakakasira ng tao,” he said.

“You have prejudged everything and you are referring to the core of the complaint against me. Why would I go there and hang myself?” he added.
MANILA, Philippines — Several member states of the United Nations have asked the Philippines to grant access to United Nations special rapporteur on extrajudicial executions Agnes Callamard without conditions.
The Philippine government has presented the human rights situation in the country before the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland for the third cycle of its Universal Periodic Review.
Reprsentatives from Bulgaria, France, Germany, Ghana, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia and Peru recommended to the Philippines to allow Callamard to conduct an investigation into the alleged extrajudicial killings in connection with President Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs.
A report on Milton Keynes Citizen said Mia Golosino, 11, was refused her first choice of secondary school, Aylesbury High grammar school, even after her parents arranged for her to take a test that revealed her genius IQ level of 162.

The genius benchmark IQ is set at 140.

Based on a letter provided to Metro, Golosino was told that she placed in the top one percent of scores required for membership with British Mensa, a local counterpart of the largest and oldest IQ society in the world.

Golosino, who is also a swimmer and a ballet dancer, accepted an offer from the Royal Latin School in Buckingham instead.

Her parents, Jose and Mary, who moved to England from the Philippines 10 years ago, shared their daughter's story to the media to "inspire other families whose kids did not get into their preferred school."

Golosino joins the ranks of genius kids who have supposedly outranked both celebrated physicists Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking in terms of pure IQ.

British-Indian children Rajgauri Pawar, Kashmea Wahi, Anushka Binoy, and Aum Amin have snagged headlines in the past for also having the IQ of 162, above Einstein and Hawkin's supposed score of 160.
A Filipina who left her children alone in their flat in Kowloon, Hong Kong, so that she could drink overnight was arrested by the police Friday last week, reports said Tuesday.

Citing Chinese language news site Sing Tao Daily, Asia Times reported that the Filipina was arrested for suspected child abuse the morning after she left her kids at their flat on Cheung Sha Wan Road.

The Filipina told police that she left her children home at Wellcome Mansion to get a drink after they had fallen asleep at 9 p.m. on Thursday.

Her neighbor, however, alerted police after they found her children, aged five and two, crying at the window of their tenth-floor flat on Friday morning.

According to Apple Daily, another Chinese language news site, the Filipina is currently unemployed and is alone in raising her children as her Tunisian husband was denied re-entry early this year.

Her husband was first granted entry to Hong Kong as a refugee and torture claimant. She was noted to have a Hong Kong identity card.

Hong Kong's Social Welfare Department said the family was already under monitoring by a social worker before the incident.

They stated that the two children, deemed psychologically stable and uninjured, will be provided with childcare services for the meantime.

A retired Russian colonel has made outlandish claims that Moscow has planted nuclear missiles off the east coast of America that could trigger a tsunami if detonated.

The far-fetched plans were outlined by Viktor Baranetz, who claimed it was a response to the US building up its military along Russia's borders.

“The Americans are deploying their tanks, airplanes and special forces battalions along the Russian border,” Mr Baranetz said in an interview with Russian paper Komsomolskaya Pravda .

“And we are quietly ‘seeding’ the US shoreline with nuclear ‘mole’ missiles. They dig themselves in and "sleep" until they are given the command..."

Any such tsunami would destroy cities such as New York and Miami.
The former official said Russia had to come up with an effective way to defend itself, while operating with a much smaller military budget than America.

“The US is the permanent ‘world champion’ in the size of its military budget – almost $600 billion (£500 million), which is 10 times more than Russia’s,” he explained.

“Russia will not compete with the US in defence expenditure. We are in a different weight class,” he said.

“For us, the main question is how to ensure Russia’s defence at a lower cost.

“I am sure that we have already found asymmetrical responses. I don’t see a big problem here.”

A Russian government spokesman dismissed Mr Baranetz's claims. Calling them "strange", he said the report should "not be taken seriously", the Daily Mail reported.
According to police, the students were travelling along Jalan Malim near the Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin (AMJ) Highway when Mohd Aiman reportedly lost control of the vehicle on the waterlogged road and veered into the oncoming lane.

Their car collided with an oncoming car and turned turtle, Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah said.

He added that the victims were on their way from Cheng Height in Malim to Krubong when the accident occurred.

The driver of the other car sustained a fractured left hand.

It is learnt that a nearby CCTV camera recorded the accident. A passing lorry driver also handed over dashcam footage to the Fire and Rescue Department.

Kubu Fire and Rescue Department operation chief K. Kalaiselvam said eight personnel rushed to the scene after receiving distress calls from passing motorists.

Mohd Shawal's mother Marizon Wahab, 44, said her eldest son left the house at 10.30am.

"He was eager to take the MUET but I never expected this to happen to him on the day he was suppose to sit for the examination," she said, choking back sobs.

MANILA, Philippines — Media and entertainment network ABS-CBN recently filed a lawsuit against 22 pirate sites before a US Federal court in Daly City, California for copyright and trademark infringement.

ABS-CBN filed a Motion for Temporary Restraining Order in US Federal District Court against 22 pirate websites for damages of over $40 million. The network filed the complaint in pursuit of its continuing effort to protect its intellectual property from global piracy.

"As mentioned before, we are committed to implementing the zero tolerance policy on piracy of ABS-CBN Global COO Raffy Lopez. We know that over ninety percent of these pirate sites contain malware which can harm people by stealing the banking and personal information from their computers or phones," ABS-CBN AVP and Head of Global Anti-Piracy Elisha Lawrence said.

"We will continue to shut down these pirate sites to protect the public from harm. There is only one genuine ABS-CBN internet subscription service that is safe for our fans to use and that is TFC and TFC.tv," she added.

Last May 1, the federal judge in the case granted a preliminary injunction order. This resulted in the blocking and shutting down of all the domains.

The 22 domains in the complaint as well as their status are listed below.

Last February, ABS-CBN also for infringement of trademarks and registered copyrights of the media and entertainment firm's 27 television shows and movies, with damages amounting to over $8 million.

Two Russian SU-35 fighter jets were seen by two F-22 stealth fighter jets escorting two Russian Bear bombers in Alaska’s Air Defence Zone about 50 miles southwest of Chariot, Alaska. The Russian formation stayed in international air space and were unarmed, officials told Fox News.

Russia has been sending aircraft into the area recently after a lengthy dry spell. Russian bombers were spotted in the area over four consecutive days last month, the first time since 2014.

Relations between the US and Russia have been strained recently. US President Donald Trump said last month that the relationship was at an “all-time low.” Even so, Mr Trump spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone Wednesday. A readout following the conversation described it as “a very good one.” The White House indicated the two had talked about the situations in Syria and North Korea. Russian provocation were not mentioned.

The White House announced in the readout that they will be sending a representative to Kazakhstan on May 3 and 4 to participate in cease-fire talks for Syria.

Two two presidents discussed implementing safe zones in Syria for "humanitarian and other reasons." Russia and the US have been divided on several fronts including what approach is appropriate in Syria, Russia's annexation of Ukraine, and Moscow's interference in the 2016 election that saw Mr Trump ascend to the presidency.

That division has pushed Mr Trump to modify some of his most controversial positions. After a meeting between US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Putin that failed to resolve differences on those issues, Mr Trump reversed course on his assessment of NATO and said that it was "no longer obsolete."
CEBU (Updated) -- The suspected Abu Sayyaf member who was arrested Thursday morning in Tan-awan, Tubigon, Bohol, was killed by the police following his alleged escape early Friday morning, May 5. Central Visayas police said Saad Samad Kiram, 36, was escaped during his transfer from Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) to the Bohol District Jail (BDJ) in Tagbilaran City past 2 a.m. Friday.

Police said that enroute to BDJ, Kiram complained of stomach pain and asked his security escorts that his handcuffs be taken off temporarily so he can defecate alongside the road. Kiram was able to run away; but after two hours of pursuit operation, he was caught in Barangay Lourdes, Cortes town. Kiram was shot dead by the police when he tried to grab the service firearm of one of his security escorts, the police said.
He was rushed to the nearest hospital, but died along the way.
