The monk continued meditating inside the grave to reach enlightenment. He breathed through a hidden tube and rang a bell to signal that he was still alive. When the bell fell silent, he remained in the tomb for another 1,000 days. The man that the researchers found, however, is not just some monk, but Liuquan, an influential figure in the history of Buddhism who lived almost 1,000 years ago.</div>

Because he was so important, the researchers believe that he was removed from the tomb and turned into a Buddha statue. They were surprised to discover that his inner organs were removed during the transformation. In their place they found pieces of parchment with mysterious Chinese characters. The meaning of these characters is still being feverishly decoded by the researchers.</div>

These kinds of Buddhist mummies are commonplace. For example, in January 2015, archaeologists found the corpse of a 200-year-old monk in Ulan Bator, the capital of Mongolia. Even in death the monk assumed the Lotus Position and appeared to just be sleeping.</div>

If that is true, you really have to ask what Liuquan thinks of the world today, witnessed over his long trip from China to Europe into the "Drents Museum" in the Netherlands. <b>SEOUL</b> — Any day of the week, the North Korean propaganda machine can be relied upon to spew out anti-American vitriol using some formulation of “imperialist” and “aggressor” and “hostile.”<br />
<br />
The Kim family has kept a tight grip on North Korea for some seven decades by perpetuating the idea that the Americans are out to get them. From the earliest age, North Korean children are taught “cunning American wolves” — illustrated by fair-haired, pale-skinned men with huge noses — want to kill them.<br />
<br />
Kindergartens and child-care centers are decorated with animals holding grenades and machine guns. Cartoons show plucky squirrel soldiers (North Koreans) triumphing over the cunning wolves (Americans).<br />
<br />
“North Koreans live in a war mentality, and this anti-American propaganda is war-time propaganda,” said Tatiana Gabroussenko, an expert in North Korean propaganda who teaches at Korea University in Seoul.<br />
<br />
The thing is: there is some element of truth to the North Korean version of events. It’s only a kernel, and it is grossly exaggerated, but North Koreans remember very well what most Americans have forgotten (or never knew): that the Korean War was a brutal one.<br />
<br />
<b>‘Utter ruin and devastation’</b><br />
<br />
“Korea is called the forgotten war, and part of what has been forgotten is the utter ruin and devastation that we rained down on the North Korean people,” said John Delury, a professor in the international relations department at Yonsei University in Seoul. “But this has been ingrained into the North Korean psyche.”<br />
<br />
First: a little history.<br />
<br />
The Korean Peninsula, previously occupied by Japan, was divided at the end of World War II. Dean Rusk — an Army colonel at the time, who went on to become secretary of state — got a map and basically drew a line across at the 38th parallel. To the Americans’ surprise, the Soviet Union agreed to the line, and the communist-backed North and the American-backed South were established in 1948 as a “temporary measure.”<br />
<br />
On June 25, 1950, Kim Il Sung, installed by the Soviets to lead North Korea, decided to try to reunify the peninsula by force, invading the South. (Although in the North Korean version of events, the South and their imperialist patrons started it.)<br />
<br />
The push south was surprisingly successful until Gen. Douglas MacArthur landed his troops on the mudflats at Incheon, sending the northern troops back. Then the Chinese got involved, managing to push them back to roughly where they started, on the 38th parallel.<br />
<br />
All this happened within the first six months or so. For the next two-and-a-half years, neither side was able to make any headway. The war was drawn to a close in 1953, after exacting a bloody toll.<br />
<br />
“The number of Korean dead, injured or missing by war’s end approached three million, 10 percent of the overall population,” Charles K. Armstrong, a professor of Korean history at Columbia University, wrote in an essay. “The majority of those killed were in the North, which had half of the population of the South.”<br />
<br />
But the war ended with an armistice, not with a peace treaty. That means that, to this day, North and South Korea remain in a technical state of war.<br />
<br />
Making the war ‘a most unpopular affair’ for the North Koreans<br />
<br />
American military leaders at the time called the Korean War a “limited war” because they did not let it expand outside the Korean Peninsula. But on the peninsula, it was total devastation, particularly for the North.<br />
<br />
The United States dropped 635,000 tons of bombs in Korea, not counting the 32,557 tons of napalm, Bruce Cumings, a University of Chicago professor who’s written several books on North Korea, wrote in “The Korean War: A History.” This compared with 503,000 tons in the entire Pacific theater in World War II.<br />
<br />
“If we keep on tearing the place apart, we can make it a most unpopular affair for the North Koreans,” Defense Secretary Robert Lovett said after the napalm and aerial bombing campaigns of 1950 and 1951, according to Cumings. “We ought to go right ahead,” Lovett said.<br />
<br />
Rusk said the United States bombed “everything that moved in North Korea, every brick standing on top of another.” After running low on urban targets, U.S. bombers destroyed hydroelectric and irrigation dams in the later stages of the war, flooding farmland and destroying crops, former Post correspondent Blaine Harden wrote on these pages in 2015.<br />
<br />
Air Force commanders complained that they’d run out of targets.<br />
<br />
“The physical destruction and loss of life on both sides was almost beyond comprehension, but the North suffered the greater damage, due to American saturation bombing and the scorched-earth policy of the retreating UN forces,” Armstrong of Columbia wrote.<br />
<br />
Fueling the North Korean narrative<br />
<br />
The Kim regime keeps its people afraid by constantly blaming the United States for its situation, especially sanctions for its economic plight. But this also helps it unify the populace against a supposed external threat.<br />
<br />
“Anti-Americanism is an ideological tool of the government,” said Peter Ward, a North Korea researcher affiliated with the Asan Institute for Policy Studies in Seoul. “They need an enemy and a villain to blame for the division of the country, a scapegoat for the situation they are in.”<br />
<br />
When the United States loses, it’s more likely to become the bogeyman, Ward said. “Look at Vietnam. Americans used much more napalm on the Vietnamese, but they’re on good terms today."<br />
<br />
As tensions between North Korea and the United States have escalated in recent months, the North has turned up the volume on its propaganda machine, in addition to launching a series of missiles.<br />
<br />
In response, President Trump has repeatedly threatened to use force to punish North Korea (although he has also said he’d be “honored” to meet Kim Jong Un.)<br />
<br />
“When a new and untested American president starts dangling out the prospect of a surprise missile attack as the solution to the North Korean problem, it plays directly into their worst narrative that the regime tells its people,” Delury said.<br />
<br />
And the worst narrative is bad.<br />
<br />
From the very real events of the Korean War, North Korea’s propagandists have created a version of history that is designed to keep the shock and horror alive more than six decades later.<br />
<br />
North Korea’s discourse on the Korean War — called the “Victorious Fatherland Liberation War” in North Korea — was constructed according to Soviet propaganda used against Nazi Germany during World War II.<br />
<br />
“North Korea’s propaganda writers were educated in the Soviet Union,” said Gabroussenko, who grew up in the Soviet Union.<br />
<br />
Russia perceived itself as being attacked by Germany in what it called “The Great Patriotic War,” she said. “So, according to the North Korean version of the Korean War, they were also fighting a great patriotic war against American intruders.”<br />
<br />
Take the Sinchon Museum of American War Atrocities south of Pyongyang, one of many museums in North Korea designed to keep the regime’s narrative alive. It recalls what North Korea says was a massacre carried out by U.S. troops.<br />
<br />
There was fighting and death in Sinchon during the Korean War, but North Korea is widely held to have vastly exaggerated them with its claim that some 35,000 “martyrs” were killed by U.S. soldiers during a massacre there.<br />
<br />
This is one of what Ward calls the “fake atrocities” that North Korea has created to bolster anti-American nationalism.<br />
<br />
Kim Jong Un has visited it several times since he became leader at the end of 2011. During a visit after a major expansion of the museum in July 2015, turning it into “a center for anti-U.S. class education,” Kim celebrated “the victory day when the Korean people defeated the U.S. imperialists.”<br />
<br />
“No matter how crafty the U.S. imperialists become in their moves to cover up their crimes, they can never erase the traces of massacre of Koreans left in this land,” Kim said, according to a state media report.<br />
<br />
He also ordered his cadres to “intensify the anti-imperialist and anti-U.S. education.” The Korean Central News Agency reported in March, that “more than 18,000 service personnel, working people and youths and students visited the museum” in the first 10 days of the month, “their hearts burning with the resolution to punish the U.S. imperialists and the South Korean warmongers.”<br />

January 2 at 10.36pm has been revealed as the most common time of the whole year to conceive, according to statistics.<br />
<br />
Fertility experts have even dubbed today 'National Baby-Making Day' after official figures revealed the UK's most commonly shared birthday is September 26, which is 38 weeks away - the average length of a pregnancy.<br />
<br />
Channel Mum looked into the reasons behind the trend, finding that 71% of would-be parents will be having sex at this time.<br />
<br />
And this year might even see more September babies due to the bank holiday.<br />
<br />
The channel asked 2,139 couples and the majority agreed that January 2 is the top day for some fun between the sheets as 'the drinking and partying is over' and they want to spend time together before returning to work.<br />
<br />
This year's Bank Holiday gives lovers even more time together and 10.36pm was revealed to be the most common time to fall pregnant, with 71% of those questioned admitting to having sex around this time.<br />
<br />
However, anyone in a relationship with a football-lover might find this time to be slightly unrealistic as Match of the Day starts six minutes earlier.<br />
<br />
Almost a quarter of parents (23%) want Christmas-conceived babies with 17 percent already having fallen pregnant previously over Xmas, while a further six percent plan to this year.<br />
<br />
A further 34 percent try for a baby on New Year’s Eve followed by a third (33%) who use Christmas Eve to try to conceive.<br />
<br />
New Year’s Eve was voted the best night to have sex just for fun, with 70 percent of couples jumping into bed together.<br />
<br />
On the whole, couples revealed they make love much more often over Christmas than normal, with 58 percent saying they have ‘a lot’ of extra sex.<br />
<br />
Three quarters (73%) claimed this was because they had more time together, while 48 percent felt happier as it’s Christmas.<br />

Over a quarter (28%) said the festive spirit made them feel closer to their partner - but 36 percent admitted they made love more as they were ‘drinking more’.<br />

However, the most popular reason to want a Christmas-conceived baby is so it would be born in September, making in the eldest in the school year, with 27 percent of mums and dads claiming this was important to them.<br />
<br />
One in five (20%) got swept up in the festive feeling and decided to try for a baby, while 16 percent wanted to fall pregnant as ‘the best Christmas present ever’.<br />
<br />
Eight percent also said their partner proposed at Christmas, or they had just married in December, so they decided to try for a child.<br />

To boost their chances of falling pregnant over Christmas, 40 percent of couples trying to conceive have sex every day - while an energetic 16 per cent make love more than once a day.<br />
<br />
A further 16 per cent lost weight and 30 per cent exercised more (in addition to having sex) - while two in five women admitted following an ‘old wives tale’ and holding their legs in the air after sex.<br />
<br />
Siobhan Freegard, founder of ChannelMum.com said: “’Tis the season to make babies. Conceiving a child over Christmas is magical and the ultimate festive present. After the turmoil of 2016 we expect a record National Baby-Making Day and a baby boom to follow this September.”

The man is named Camille Parent, and his mom needed additional care, so he decided to take his mother in a nursing home, because he had to go to work and he does not have free time to take care about her.<br />

He thought that by taking her there, it will be the best thing for her, as she will recieve the needed care. the nursing home was in Peterborough, Ontario. After some period from being there, he noticed that his mother  had bruises and scratches on her face.<br />

First, he thought that maybe some other patients have done that to her, and he complained to the nursing home. Then he decided to install hidden digital cameras in her room. What he saw after that, was shocking.<br />

Skylar Neese was a 16-year-old girl whose parents could never be prouder of. She was the only child of Dave and Mary Neese, and even at a young age, she had already shown great potential. Skylar had a 4.0-grade point average and was working part-time at a fast food restaurant, all while keeping an active social life. Like most teenagers, she regularly went out with friends and attended a few parties. Skylar Neese and Shelia Eddy were best friends since they were 8. According to Dave, Shelia was a part of their family. They even treated her as their own daughter. In 2010, Shelia Eddy became friends with Rachel Shoaf. That same year, Shelia moved to the University High School where Skylar was attending. Shelia then introduced Skylar to Rachel and eventually, all three girls became inseparable.<br />

Skylar went home from work on July 5, 2012. But the next morning, Dave was shocked to discover that her daughter wasn’t in her room. He later discovered that Skylar’s window screen had been removed and he also found a hidden bench that his daughter used to help her climb in and out of the window. At that point, he realized that Skylar wasn’t home the night before.<br />

Later that day, Skylar’s parents learned that she had missed work- something she had never done before. They immediately called 911 to report her missing. Police officer Bob McCauley of the Star City, West Virginia police department responded to the call and launched an investigation to find Skylar Neese. According to Mary, Shelia had told her how she, Rachel, and Skylar slipped out the previous night and proceeded to drive around Star City. They all got high and dropped Skylar off at their house later that night. But according to Mary, the two girls dropped Skylar off at the end of the road because they didn’t want to risk waking up Skylar’s parents up as she snuck back in.<br />

Sheila and Rachel Shoaf convinced Skylar to sneak out with them on that night of July 5. They convinced her that the reason they wanted her to come out was because they wanted to work on fixing their friendship. Skylar initially hesitated but eventually relented after being bombarded by numerous calls and text messages from both Shelia and Rachel. They picked Skylar up around 11 p.m. and returned her home before midnight.<br />

Surveillance footage shows that at 12:30 a.m., a car pulls up in front of the Neese’s apartment. Police initially believed that the girls may have gone to a house party where Skylar might have overdosed. According to Corporal Ronnie Gaskins, there were rumors that Skylar had overdosed on heroin. One of the investigators working on the case was Jessica Colebank. According to her, the first time she spoke with Shelia Eddy, she thought her behavior was suspicious. She said that Shelia displayed the total lack of empathy. As for Rachel Shoaf, Colebank thought that she was very nervous the first time she spoke to her. Then on December 28, 2012, Rachel Shoaf was sent to a local psychiatric hospital due to a nervous breakdown. At that point, she no longer had contact with Shelia Eddy. After being discharged on January 3, 2013, Rachel could no longer stand it. She confessed to police and her attorney that she and Shelia stabbed Skylar to death. The investigation revealed that it was Shelia’s car that pulled up in front of the Neese’s apartment on the night Skylar disappeared. There were also traces of Skylar’s blood inside Shelia’s car. But despite the overwhelming evidence, Rachel still did not implicate Shelia in the crime. After confessing to the murder, Rachel Shoaf agreed to take police to the crime scene to locate Skylar’s body.<br />

The investigation uncovered some overwhelming details on the night of Skylar’s murder. Shelia and Rachel chose the spot where they smoked marijuana as the place where they would murder Skylar- they had been planning for it for months. Shelia and Rachel each carried a kitchen knife concealed underneath their clothes. They left the bleach, cleaning cloths, and shovel in Shelia’s car to be used later after they have carried out their plan.<br />

As the girls were out of the car, Shelia and Rachel said they forgot to bring a lighter. Skylar quickly went back to the car to fetch hers. Once her back was turned, Shelia and Rachel counted to “three” and began repeatedly stabbing Skylar with the kitchen knives they brought from home.<br />

Skylar made a desperate attempt to run but Rachel tackled her to the ground and continued assaulting her. Skylar wrestled the knife from Rachel and cut her knee with it. But Shelia wasn’t far behind. Shelia and Rachel dragged Skylar’s body to a spot where they planned to bury her. But the soil was hard and rocky, so they covered Skylar’s body with fallen branches, dirt, and rocks. But their crime caught up with them eventually. On May 1, 2013, after months of investigation, Rachel turned herself in at the Mongolia County Circuit Court. And with her cooperation, Skylar’s body was found. The discovery of her body and her blood in Shelia’s car were sufficient evidence to apprehend Shelia. According to the court’s transcript, other students knew of Shelia and Rachel’s plan to kill Skylar, but they dismissed it as just a joke, so they didn’t report it. In Rachel’s plea agreement, she pled guilty to murder in the second degree by “unlawfully, feloniously, willfully, maliciously and intentionally causing the death of Skylar Neese by stabbing her and causing fatal injuries”. On May 1, 2013, Shelia Eddy was arrested in a restaurant parking lot. She was later charged as an adult and pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. She was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.<br />

For Dave and Mary Neese, moving on after their only child’s murder was a struggle. Dave would often drive 20 miles to visit the site where her daughter was brutally killed. “Something horrible happened here. But I wanted to take the horrible thing that happened here and try to turn it into something good — a place that people can come and remember Skylar and remember the good little girl that she was, and not the little beast that they treated her like,” Dave Neese said.<br />

Dave didn’t hold back his emotions when asked about the court’s ruling for Shelia and Rachel. “They’re both sickos, and they’re both exactly where they need to be: away from civilization, locked up like animals. Because that’s what they are, they’re animals,” he said.<br />

To further memorialize their daughter, Dave and Mary Neese lobbied to get the Skylar’s Law passed in West Virginia. The law requires that an Amber Alert be issued not just for those believed to have been kidnapped, but for all missing children. An Amber Alert alerts broadcasters and state transportation officials when a child has been abducted and if the abduction has met the AMBER Alert Criteria.<br />

When Skylar went missing, an Amber Alert was not issued because her disappearance did not meet the Amber Alert criteria: a child is believed to have been abducted; the child is under 18, the child may be in danger of death or serious injury; there is enough information to indicate that the Amber Alert is necessary. Under Amber Alert, a waiting period of 48 hours is needed for a teenager to be considered missing.<br />
<br />
The Skylar’s Law aims to modify West Virginia’s Amber Alert plan. Under the law, public announcements are to be issued immediately after a child is reported missing and in danger, whether or not the child is believed to be abducted. The proposed law won support from West Virginia and national media, but it wasn’t without any staunch critics.<br />

Then on March 27, 2013, Skylar’s Law was approved by the West Virginia House of Delegates with a 98-0 vote. On April 12, 2013, the West Virginia Senate passed the law unanimously. Finally, in May 2013, Governor Earl Ray Tomblin of West Virginia signed the legislation into law.<br />

Dave and Mary Neese appeared on Dr. Phil’s TV show. With them were Shania, Shelia’s cousin – who was also a friend of Skylar’s – and some of Rachel Shoaf’s friends. When asked what could have caused the two girls to violently turn on Skylar, Shania told what she believes was a possible motive – that Skylar may have witnessed a sexual encounter between Shelia and Rachel.<br />

Dave Neese was filled with resentment and anger for what had happened to his child. In an interview, he said, “You don’t apologize for murdering somebody in cold blood.” Shelia and Rachel are now serving time in jail, but there’s a possibility that they could be released by the time they are in their 30s for good behavior. As for Dave Neese, he only had one thing to say to Skylar’s murderers: “Rot in hell.”<br />
