Antonio Trillanes IV on Sunday said President Duterte had wanted him dead since the latter won the presidency in May 2016.

Trillanes quoted confessed hit man SPO3 Arturo Lascañas, a former Davao City policeman, who said he had suggested to the President’s trusted aide that the killing be made to look like an accident.

The senator was reacting to a statement from Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II in a pro-Duterte rally in Luneta on Saturday that the government would go after him next to staunch presidential critic, Sen. Leila de Lima, who was arrested last week on drug charges and is now detained in Camp Crame.

Trillanes said he was actually the first on the hit list of Mr. Duterte.

“Actually, I was supposed to be the first [on the list] but they wanted me dead. They will not file cases against me but have me killed. Lascañas was told about this after Mr. Duterte won the presidency and it was because the latter was very angry at me. So they want to have me killed from the very start,” he said in a radio interview.

Contacted by phone, Trillanes gave more details of what Lascañas had told him when they first met. This was after the retired policeman had sought help from an emissary to reach out to the senator last January.

According to Trillanes, Lascañas told him that when Mr. Duterte won the election last year, he was approached by the latter’s trusted aide and driver, retired SPO4 Sonny Buenaventura.

“Lascañas was asked by Buenaventura what he thought about killing me because Duterte was very angry at me,” Trillanes told the Inquirer.

Trillanes has drawn the ire of the President after the senator revealed a few days before the May election that Mr. Duterte had P2 billion in his bank accounts. Mr. Duterte denied the charge but admitted he had a bank account in one of the branches of the bank that Trillanes had identified.

But Trillanes said Lascañas had told Buenaventura it would be difficult killing the senator.

“It was too big a project for them. They were used to killing small targets like petty criminals. If ever, their biggest target was Jun Pala,” the senator said.

Last week, Lascañas, who had come out to say he was a member of the Davao Death Squad under the control and pay of Mr. Duterte since he was mayor of Davao City, claimed he was among those who killed Pala, a hard-hitting radio anchor whose favorite subject was the President.

Trillanes said Lascañas had also told Buenaventura that killing the senator would result in a big backlash on the President.

“It’s because they know the investigation into my killing would be a tough one and some of those behind it might squeal, and that was why it would be difficult to accomplish,” Trillanes said.

And because he did not want to take on the job of killing Trillanes, Lascañas said that he made suggestions to Buenaventura that they make the killing look like an accident such as causing a truck to slam into Trillanes’ vehicle.

Trillanes said the retired policeman had told him that there were others that the Duterte administration wanted killed, which he would reveal more about when he testifies before the Senate on Thursday.

SOURCE: inquirer

What do you think?" />
PREDICTABLY, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s latest zinger against his presidential rival Mar Roxas had much of the media and the public in a tizzy.
Dared by Roxas to disclose his medical records following news last week that the mayor had canceled his scheduled speaking engagement—ironically before a medical association—and stayed overnight in a hospital after a severe bout of “migraine,” Duterte said he’d do so provided Roxas should first prove he is circumcised. Duterte’s camp would later on try to spin the on-cam statement by saying that what the mayor only meant was, his rival wasn’t “cut out” for the presidency.

The schoolyard taunting was vintage Duterte, and his supporters lapped it up as usual. That the mayor could stick it to his opponents, and twist the knife further, was a reaffirmation for them that this man, indeed, has the cojones to be the savior of a country long gone to seed. Also, more memorable quotes from the mayor, more media mileage, and the self-proclaimed poor candidate from Davao might just prove to be the most astute candidate of them all, effortlessly able to keep himself top of mind in the public consciousness merely by keeping the presidential discourse—if you could even call it that—on the puerile, juvenile side.

Must presidential aspirants reveal their medical status? Should that even be debated on? Any sane voter would want to know, at the very least, whether his/her preferred candidate for the highest position in the land is of sound physical and mental health to take on the enormous burden of running the country 24/7. A person’s health is no longer a private matter exempt from public scrutiny once he/she presumes to want to be the leader of the citizenry, whose collective wellbeing would now rest in part on his/her well-being as well, once he/she is installed in Malacañang.

Disclosing the state of one’s health is an elementary requirement for public officials in other countries. Here, however, candidates merely scoff at it; before Duterte, Miriam Defensor Santiago also laughed off suggestions for her to fully disclose her medical records following her supposed battle with, and eventual triumph over, stage-4 cancer. An illness, lest we forget, that sidelined the senator for a considerable period of time from her duties in the Senate, on top of her “chronic fatigue syndrome” that also forced her, if she is to be believed, from assuming even for a day the post of judge in the International Criminal Court to which she was reportedly elected.

In Duterte’s case, the migraine attack—he would change it later on to “headache and bronchitis”—not only had him staying overnight at Cardinal Santos Medical Center; he also admitted he instructed his operatives to lie and tell the media he was in Davao, supposedly to ward off any media intrusion as he underwent hospital tests. By any standard, that admission should elicit outrage; any other candidate saying, at this point, that they lied to the public to hide their true state of health would be subject to much derision and condemnation.

After all, if a candidate and his lackeys could traffic in falsehoods this early—and be seemingly blasé about it—what bigger untruths will they not feel free to foist to keep the public in the dark once they’ve won the mighty presidency, where even greater stakes are at play?

He may not realize it, but Duterte himself appears to give the game away in a telling follow-up comment that unfortunately got buried in the general hilarity that greeted his salacious broadside against Roxas: “I won’t reveal my medical records,” he reiterated. “Ano ako, tanga (What am I, stupid)?”

Let’s parse that statement. From a political point of view, disclosing his records would only be stupid if it indeed provides something that would be detrimental to his image, that sows doubt in the minds of people, takes votes away from him and provides ammunition to his enemies. Is there? Might there be in the records, in fact, a confirmation that the mayor’s condition is not as benign and temporary as his camp has tried to pass it off? Otherwise, if Duterte has a bill of health as clean as the streets of Davao that he is so proud of, what is there to hide, and why would opening up his medical bulletin be stupid at all?

That goes as well, of course, for the other candidates, whose avowals of fundamental honesty in office must begin with the disclosure of their individual health status. The public cannot live on verbal assurances alone. What are we, stupid?

SOURCE: inquirer

Antonio Trillanes IV is now being circulated.

The petition started by Michael Valderama, an OFW based in the United Kingdom, calls for the voluntary resignation of Sen. Trillanes. In his letter, he explains that the Filipinos do not want a public servant whose only aim is to oust the President. He called the senator's cause useless and that Filipinos do not require such a service.

In his petition, Valderama reiterated that the Duterte administration is working to provide Filipinos with a brighter future and that he was elected because Filipinos wanted change in the country. He told the senator that the propaganda he is creating is tantamount to betrayal to the Philippines. He warned Trillanes that if he did not voluntary resign, the people will forcibly remove him. Valderama added that the senator is creating confusion and is dividing Filipinos.

In his letter, Valderama wrote that if the senator continues with his acts, the people will force him out. He said that voluntary resignation is the best option for the senator.

The letter went viral online and is being posted on pro-administration blogs

<img alt="Online Petition Calls for the Voluntary Resignation of Senator Trillanes. They (PET) referred to the established precincts instead of the clustered precincts," said Marcos' legal spokesperson Victor Rodriguez.

Marcos' election lawyer, George Garcia, told GMA News Online the former senator got "disappointed and bewildered" after being told of the PET resolution on Tuesday.

Asked why Marcos reacted that way, Garcia said: "It's a long holiday. It's difficult to produce that amount (P33.02 million)."

Robredo's camp told GMA News Online that their lawyers were still studying the resolution.

The PET had earlier ruled against Robredo's bid to dismiss Marcos' poll protest for issues that should have been allegedly resolved by Congress, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC).

The tribunal said it has jurisdiction over the case and the protest was sufficient in form and substance, taking into account the narrations of "ultimate facts" on the alleged irregularities and anomalies in the contested clustered precincts which Marcos needs to prove in due time.

The former senator had alleged that there was massive vote-buying, pre-shading of ballots, pre-loaded secure digital cards, misreading of ballots, malfunctioning vote counting machines, a script change in the transparency server that allegedly altered the results in the vice presidential race, and an “abnormally high” unaccounted votes/undervotes for the position of vice president.

Marcos lost to Robredo by just 263,473 votes in the May 2016 election, making it the tightest vice presidential race in recent history.

SOURCE: GMA
