A barangay in Quezon City has launched a "shame" campaign against motorists who violate parking rules, a report by GMA News' Cesar Apolinario on Balitanghali said Monday.
The report said officers of Barangay Commonwealth carried placards with the words "Pasaway ako" and "Nagpaparking sa bawal, wag nyo akong tularan" to be put on illegally parked vehicles.
Barangay Commonwealth executive officer Julius Dela Cruz said barangay leaders initiated the shame campaign to show that they are serious in enforcing traffic rules in the barangay.
"Kailangang gawin yung ganon na lagyan natin ng placard ang mga pasaway para makita nila na ang barangay ay seryoso sa pagpapatupad," Dela Cruz said.
The report said a tricycle and a private vehicle were among those netted in the operation. At least 30 other vehicle owners were given traffic violation tickets during the operation.
The report said more than 100 erring motorists have been nabbed since Thursday.
Aside from roving traffic enforcers, the barangay also installed numerous CCTV cameras in areas where most motorists tend to violate traffic rules.
Dela Cruz said they monitored a reduction of traffic violations since they started the shame campaign.
"Halos araw-araw gumagawa kami ng ganyan at medyo kumonti na yung pasaway," he said.
