Many of us are at ease taking Uber because it’s much safer and more comfortable than riding other public transportation. Plus, it’s more convenient because availing its service is just one click away. Unfortunately, few days ago the transport network vehicle service was in hot water due to an Uber driver who  allegedly does something not right with  his female  passenger during broad daylight. 
 
According to news, the 22-year-old female passenger took Uber vehicle that was identified as a red Toyota Vios with plate number ARA 3101 at Camp Crame and supposed to be drop off to Katipunan avenue. The moment that the Uber driver Xstian Karlou John Marie reached the pickup place, he immediately cancelled the request and just negotiated with the passenger to take the ride and pay him after 
 
During the ride, the female passenger and Marie had a good conversation until the driver asked his passenger to sit next to him.  “dito ka sa harapan lingon kasi ko ng lingon sa’yo eh!”

The victim granted the request which led her to her worst nightmare. The driver grabbed the passenger’s pr1vat3. He forced her hand to touch his  ___ and perform some 0ra||  
 
"sige na gawin mo na,tinted naman ang kotse".  Carla was so frightened that she thinks that the  Uber driver have a gun or knife, so she had no  other choice but to follow what the suspect says. 
 
Uber had released a statement about the incident: ““First and foremost our thoughts are with the rider and her family. We immediately removed the driver from the Uber platform when we learned of the reported incident and are cooperating fully with law enforcement in their ongoing investigation and stand ready to assist them in every way we can,” 
 
Hearing between LTFRB and parties involved is scheduled on August 10.

GMA NEWSTV  features a 78-year-old woman who dives deep into the sea to catch coins being thrown by seafarers and Roro (a small steamboat) passengers at Dalahican Ferry Terminal in Lucena, Quezon. 
 
Well, we can just say that Filipinos have been doing it for already a very long time, which became a thing we are all accustomed to when we travel through waters. To others who have experienced such tossing of coins, they said that it is their own way of helping people who do such things. Some even toss not only coins or money, but also food tightly closed into a container to avoid getting wet by the sea waters.

“KILL drugs, not people.” 
 
That is the message of Jennilyn Olayres to President Duterte, whose war on illegal drugs had taken the life of her husband, Michael Siaron. 
 
Olayres (not Olaires as earlier reported) will bury her husband on Wednesday, 11 days after motorcycle-riding men shot him dead at Pasay Rotunda on Edsa and Taft Avenue. 
 
She conceded Siaron, 29, was a drug user, but she said it was impossible that  he was a dealer because they were too poor and could barely pay for their next meal. 
 
Siaron made money by driving a pedicab—a bicycle with a sidecar—and did odd jobs.

He voted for Mr. Duterte in the May 9 presidential election, Olayres said in an interview with the Inquirer on Sunday.

Olayres, 26,  is not a registered voter, but she said she, too, would have voted for Mr. Duterte “because we wanted an end to crime.” 
 
Six weeks after Siaron cast his vote for the candidate who promised to wipe out the illegal drug trade, he became part of the statistics, falling along with five other men gunned down by suspected vigilantes in Pasay and Manila early on July 23. 
 
The night before he was gunned down, Siaron had dinner at his father’s  fruit stall at the rotunda and bought a P30-“lumpiang shanghai” meal for his wife. Then he returned to his job, never to come home again. 
 
From their shack built on a trash-clogged creek in Barangay Santo Niño in the rundown part of Pasay City, Olayres ran barefoot to Taft Avenue when a friend called out that Siaron had been shot. 
 
Recalling the moment she found her husband’s body, she said she thought he was just hit by a stray bullet and could still be alive. But he was dead. 
 
“When I was cradling him, I was thinking, ‘How long have you been lying here?’ Nobody bothered to help him. I was furious,” Olayres said, speaking at the Santo Niño barangay hall under the elevated tracks of the LRT where the body of her husband lay in a white coffin. 
 
“Thoughts were running in my mind. ‘It can’t be you. You don’t deserve this. There are others who deserve this more than you,’” she said in a separate interview with Reuters. 
 
“If only I had wings, I would quickly fly to his side,” she said. 
 
Photographers surrounded her behind a police cordon as she cuddled her husband’s body. A piece of cardboard was left next to his body with the words “drug pusher” written on it. 
 
The next day, the Inquirer published a front-page photo of a weeping Olayres cradling the body of Siaron, a heartbreaking image that went viral on the internet, sounding a global alarm over human rights violations in the Philippines. 
 
But that picture failed to touch Mr. Duterte. He mentioned it in his inaugural State of the Nation Address to Congress on July 25, calling it melodramatic and seeking to evoke “Pieta,” the 1499 sculpture of Michelangelo depicting a heart-rending scene from the Deposition of Jesus. 
 
“You are portrayed in a broadsheet like [the Virgin] Mary cradling the [body] of Jesus Christ. Let’s do drama here,” Mr. Duterte said in his speech in response to the public outrage inspired by the photo. 
 
Church groups, rights advocates and some sections of the media have criticized Mr. Duterte’s war on drugs and expressed alarm at what they have termed extrajudicial killings. 
 
More than 500 people, mostly poor drug users, have been killed since Mr. Duterte was elected.

As of July 30, the statistics stood at 525 killed: 170 in vigilante attacks and 355 during police operations. 
 
In his maiden policy speech, Mr. Duterte declared there would be no letup in the campaign, ordering police and local officials to “double your efforts, triple them if need be.” 
 
“We will not stop until the last drug lord, the last financier and the last pusher have surrendered or put behind bars or below the ground if they so wish,” he said. 
 
He vowed to show “no mercy,” warning criminals that priests and human rights advocates cannot protect them from death. 
 
“If you don’t want to die, if you don’t want to get hurt, don’t rely on priests and human rights [advocates]. That won’t stop death,” he said. 
 
Such words from the tough-talking former mayor of Davao City draw cheers from his supporters, hurting Olayres, who lamented that some people were unperturbed by the killings. 
 
“They’re happy because it hasn’t happened to them. What if they lose a loved one, someone who is not guilty of the offense?” Olayres said in the interview with the Inquirer. “It’s difficult to accept.” 
 
“President Duterte hates pushers. I hope he himself will investigate the killings of people who have been judged with a cardboard,” she said, referring to the cardboard signs that read “drug pusher” left by the killers beside the bodies of their victims. 
 
In the war on drugs, “they should go to the root,” she said, adding that her blood boiled after she saw the Inquirer photo in a blog that branded it as fake. 
 
“I hope they think first before they judge. That kind of situation when you see someone you love slumped on the road, are you going to think of drama?” she said. 
 
“I am not expecting justice for my husband. I know we won’t get that, especially since people believe the cardboards—cardboards that can never prove if the slain person is really a pusher. I just want to clear my husband’s name,” she said.

Around 1:30 a.m. on July 23, upon arriving on Edsa Taft-Pasay Rotunda from another crime scene, I could already see the picture. 
 
I knew this was different. In the middle of the police line in which photographers and bystanders are not allowed to cross was the lifeless body of suspected drug pusher Michael Siaron, cradled by partner Jennilyn Olayres. A cardboard sign that read “Drug pusher huwag tularan” (I am a drug pusher, don’t emulate) was left near the body. 
 
An hour had passed after the shooting, according to witnesses. A gunman on a motorcycle driven by an accomplice fired on Siaron and left the cardboard sign beside him. Another person was wounded. 
 
TV floodlights and news cameras popped and flashed as Olayres wept for Siaron while cradling him in her arms like Michelangelo’s world-famous sculpture “Pieta,” a depiction of the Virgin Mary mourning over the body of the dead Christ. 
 
I took many shots from a distance supported by the light from cameras illuminating Siaron and Olayres, which appeared very much like lighting from a theater stage. Hearing her pleading for help was gut-wrenching. I could do nothing but take more shots.

I saw no need to use a flash, as I needed to capture the dark-at-dawn atmosphere. 
 
“That’s enough! And help us!” she cried out to media workers, authorities and onlookers. 
 
I stopped taking pictures and looked for a policeman. I asked him, “What are you waiting for?” 
 
The policeman replied: “We can’t do anything as he is already dead. Let’s wait for the Soco (Scene of the Crime Operatives).” 
 
The members of the Soco team came several minutes late because they came from the same crime scene we covered earlier outside the Senate Building in Pasay City.

What could I do? It was heartbreaking but I knew I had to do my job. The crime scene still had to be processed. Evidence had to be gathered. 
 
I climbed the overpass and took more shots: an overview of the scene with cars passing along Edsa, with a few motorists stopping and looking at the commotion, a crowd gathering around the body and Olayres laying Siaron down on the pavement and weeping. 
 
Another report came—a body was found in Leveriza, Pasay City, the fourth on that shift. Many of my colleagues and I hurried off but we all had a heavy heart.

We were not able to take pictures of the male victim—the fourth in “Patay City” (a play on Pasay City, meaning city of the dead), as a radio reporter jokingly said—as the body had been removed from the crime scene. The victim, a mute, was shot and killed by a motorcycle-riding gunman, who also left a cardboard message near his body. 
 
We were quiet as we went back to the Manila Police District, the office of graveyard-shift media workers. I lighted a cigarette to calm my nerves. Another photographer took deep breaths. Together, we recounted moments from the scene at Pasay Rotunda. 
 
Another veteran photographer said, while shaking his head, “I no longer want to be a photographer.” We all had the same feeling of guilt. 
 
We were unsure whether to submit the pictures for publication because we felt guilty for not being able to help the victim and his partner. We only took photographs.

I remember shaking my head, wiping off my sweat and processing what had just transpired in my head. 
 
I told my colleagues: “Let’s file this. It’s our work.” 
 
We may not have helped the victim and his partner but it is our job to show these pictures. We have to show reality as it is and perhaps, get people to react and even take action.

Is someone hiding from you because they owe you money? Have you tried talking to them and they came up with many excuses not to pay you? 
 
If the money you lent—including interests and penalties—is less than P200,000, you can now file a case under the “Rule of Procedure for Small Claims Cases". Any individuals or businesses can get back the money they are owed through this new rule. 
 
According to the website Nations Press, here is the step-by-step procedure on how to get your money back: 
 
 
<ul>
<li>File a “Small Claims” case on the first level court– either in your place or the debtor’s address.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Choose one of these First level courts: a) Metropolitan Trial Court, b) Municipal Trial Courts in Cities, c) Municipal Trial Court and Municipal Circuit Trial Courts.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>If you live in Pasig and the person who owe you (debtor) lives in Silang, Cavite. You can either file a case in Pasig Metropolitan Trial Court or in Silang-Amadeo Municipal Circuit Trial Court.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Fill up the following forms in the Office of the Clerk of Court: a) Information for Plaintiff, b) Statement of Claim, and c) Certification of Non-Forum Shopping.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Because you filed the case, you will need a “Verified Statement of Claim.” This means you promise in court that you provided the correct information and you have not filed the same case elsewhere.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>You also need to present proof that the person indeed owes you money. Choose from ANY of these: a) signed contract by that person, b) promissory notes, bank deposit slips and other paper trails, c) latest demand letter with “proof of delivery and proof of receipt,” or d) affidavits of witnesses.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Pay the filing fee of P1,250.</li>
</ul>
 
 
And you’re done! 
 
The case you submitted will be under review by a judge. If your case has merit, the person who owe you will be given documents, such as a Summon, Notice of Hearing, Response Form, Information for the Defendant, and other relevant documents. 
 
You and the defendant will go to a “Settlement Discussion” where you will both try to settle the case. If no settlement happens, you will move to a court hearing right after. The judge will be the one to make a decision on the case. 
 
Remember the judge’s decision is “final, non-appealable and immediately executory.”

MANILA - The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) said Tuesday free wireless internet would be offered in major transport terminals nationwide after it partnered with Smart Communications Inc. 
 
The telecommunications giant will provide free Wi-Fi in airports, sea ports, train stations and bus terminals, under to a memorandum of understanding it signed with the government, the DOTC said in a statement. 
 
The free internet will be "10 times faster" than regular connections, "at par with international standards," according to the statement. 
 
"We thank our partner, Smart, for supporting the government's thrust to make passengers' travel experience more comfortable, convenient and connected," Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said.

Former Ateneo de Manila University professor Christina Astorga blamed the 16 Million Filipino People who voted for President Rodrigo Duterte.

In a Facebook Post, Astorga said that someday the 16 million people who voted for President Duterte will realize the damage that they’ve caused in the country. 
 
She added that instead of making the police as world class professional police force in the country, Pres. Duterte is turning them into “vigilantes who violate their professional codes, in their rush to get their bounties.”

We were eating lunch at a Daly City home and watching “Eat Bulaga!”, the popular noontime variety show on GMA TV, when someone commented that he read on Facebook that two of the show’s hosts, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon, were involved in the gang rape of a young Filipino American actress named Pepsi Paloma in 1982. 
 
Three young Filipino kids, all recent immigrants, joined in the conversation and said that they also heard of the Pepsi Paloma rape case. I expressed surprise because it occurred long before any of them were born. They explained that they learned of the rape from the song “Spolarium” composed and performed by the Eraserheads, their favorite Filipino rock band. 
 
When I Googled the lyrics of “Spolarium” by the Eraserheads, I found these words: 
 
at ngayon di pa rin alam 
kung ba’t tayo nandito 
pwede bang itigil muna 
ang pagikot ng mundo 
 
umiyak ang umaga 
anong sinulat ni enteng at joey dyan 
sa gintong salamin 
di ko na mabasa 
pagkat merong nagbura ahhh… 
 
(And we still don’t know why we’re here, please stop the turning of the world, the morning cried, what did enteng and joey write in the golden mirror I couldn’t read because someone erased it). 
 
According to these diehard fans of the Eraserheads, “enteng” is  Vic Sotto and “joey” is Joey de Leon and the something that was erased was their criminal record. The meaning of the lyrics of this song, the kids shared, has been a popular subject of discussion in Manila universities as well as in the social media. 
 
When I Googled “Pepsi Paloma”, I saw the link to the video that had been downloaded on Facebook by as many as 66,000 viewers The “Eat Bulaga – Pepsi Paloma story” reported the tragic tale of Delia Smith, the eldest daughter of Lydia Duenas, a native of Borac, Northern Samar, and Kenneth Smith, an American letter carrier who deserted his family when his four children were still young. 
 
When Delia was barely 13, her mother introduced her to talent manager Rey dela Cruz who changed her name to “Pepsi Paloma” to join his stable of other “soft drink” beauties which included Sarsi Emmanuel and Cola Nicolas. Dela Cruz secured Pepsi’s starring role in her first movie, a “bold” feature called Brown Emmanuelle in 1981. 
 
Less than a year later, according to her account, while promoting one of her movies, Pepsi met the three comedian hosts of Eat Bulaga – Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon and Richie D’Horsey (Richie Reyes). The three men took her out to a bar, drugged her, and then gang raped her in a hotel room. (Because she was only 14 at the time, these comedians were pedophile rapists.) 
 
To prosecute a crime in the Philippines, you cannot just rely on government prosecutors, you have to hire a private prosecutor otherwise the case will be dismissed for lack of prosecution. For this job, Pepsi sought the help of then Defense Secretary Juan Ponce Enrile who referred her to the senior partner in the ACCRA law office, Atty.  Rene Cayetano, the father of Sen. Pia Cayetano and Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, who offered his pro bono services to Pepsi. 
 
If convicted of the rape charge, the three comedians faced the death penalty, a sentence that was meted out previously in 1967 to the four rapists of movie star Maggie dela Riva. Three of the men were executed in 1972 on live TV while the fourth escaped the electric chair by dying in prison. 
 
To prevent the same fate from befalling his younger brother, Sen. Tito Sotto quickly went to see Pepsi Paloma while she was still securing the services of Atty. Cayetano. According to her account of this visit, Sen. Sotto “coerced” her into signing an “Affidavit of Desistance” to drop the rape complaint against his brother and his cohorts. 
 
[But how could that affidavit be legal when she was only 14 when she signed it and she did so without the presence of her attorney?  But this happened in 1982 during martial law and the Sottos were said to be favored by the Marcos dictatorship.] 
 
How was she coerced? In her November 3, 2012 column in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Rina Jimenez David described this incident as follows: “Paloma eventually dropped the charges after she was allegedly visited by one of the trio who said he had only talked with her, but only after placing a pistol on the table in front of her.” 
 
As a result of Pepsi’s signed affidavit of desistance, no criminal charges were filed against the three comedian rapists even after they went down on their knees on their show “Eat Bulaga!” and asked forgiveness from Pepsi Paloma for raping her when she was only 14. 
 
Three years after her rape, on May 31, 1985, Pepsi was found dead in her apartment with a rope looped around her neck. The police concluded that it was a suicide caused by “monetary problems” and this was the official story that appeared in the headlines of the newspapers. 
 
But her manager, Babette Corcuerra, disputed the press account. “She was earning well and was fully booked for dancing performances. She just finished the Pepsi Paloma Show at the Bughaw and 10 other beerhouses,” Corcuerra said, and she had three film offers lined up, she added. 
 
It just did not add up, Corcuerra said. “She was looking forward to celebrating her 18th birthday next year. She made me promise to throw a big party for her at a hotel because it would be her debut,” Corcuerra told the Times Journal. 
Was she murdered? Before he passed away, in an interview on ABS-CBN that was not aired, self-confessed hitman Kit Mateo intimated as much. 
 
“Eat Bulaga!” is now entering its 35th year as the longest-running noontime variety on air program in the history of television, making millionaires of its comedic stars. 
 
Sen. Tito Sotto is still in the Philippine Senate serving as the proud champion of the Holy Roman Catholic Church in his staunch opposition to the Reproductive Health Act and to all forms of contraception. 
 
Pepsi Paloma would have celebrated her 47th birthday this year.

During his inaugural speech, the President ordered all department secretaries and the head of agencies to reduce the number of requirements and processing time of all government transactions – from submission of requirements to release of documents. He also ordered the removal of redundant requirements. Compliance of requirements with only one department or agency will now be sufficient for other departments or agencies. 
 
 
 
2. Goodbye drug syndicates 
 
President Duterte has vowed during the campaign period to eradicate illegal drugs. Together with PNP chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, the new administration appears to be seriously implementing this campaign promise.

Two days after his explosive announcement, the President released a chart of a drug trade network, revealing the top three drug lords operating in the country. 
 
3. Peace on the way 
 
During Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Change of Command Ceremony, the President shared that even before he was proclaimed as the new head of state, he was already busy going around Mindanao talking to people to bring about peace in the land.

In a facebook post of former Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said they had "spirited exchange of words" with Assistant Regional Director Garbo. 
 
Garcia's post went viral. She shared her conversation with PNP General Garbo right after her suspension order. 
 
Garbo was one of the five generals linked in illegal drug trade. 
 
Garcia said that she asked Garbo that PDEA, AFP, and PNP should joined together to fight against illegal drugs. But Garbo turned down her offer. Garbo responded to her that it's PDEA's mandate.

President Duterte on Thursday identified three alleged “top tier” drug lords operating in the country, two of them currently detained at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP). 
 
Mr. Duterte said drug lords were disrespecting the country, and destroying the youth and the land. 
“My appeal to them is since they are beyond redemption, they can stop and commit suicide  because I will not allow these idiots to run their show, not [on] my watch,” he said. 
 
The President identified the drug lords as Luzon Triad member Wu Tuan, alias Peter Co; Visayan Triad member Peter Lim, alias Jaguar, and Herbert Colangco, alias Ampang, who is allied with the Parojinog drug syndicate or Kuratong Baleleng. 
 
Triad refers to a criminal syndicate with origins in China. The Kuratong Baleleng is a gang that figured in a shootout with agents led by crime czar Panfilo Lacson, now a senator, in which 11 members were killed in 1996. 
Co and Colangco are both detained in NBP in Muntinlupa City. 
 
Mr. Duterte also identified retired PNP Deputy Director General Marcelo Garbo as the alleged associate or protector of Lim. Garbo was one of five police officials named by the President on Tuesday as alleged protectors of drug syndicates. 
 
“This would show to you how corrosive or how broad the dimension of our problems regarding drugs,” he said in comments aired over PTV 4 last night. 
 
Lim, Co, and Colangco supposedly get their supply from China and are all Level 5, or top tier drug lords, meaning they supply the largest number of drugs per shipment, according to Solicitor General Jose Calida. 
 
Lim, or Jaguar, is believed to be out of the Philippines, Calida said. 
Another drug lord, Jeffrey Diaz, also alias Jaguar, was killed recently in Las Piñas City. 
 
Below these Level 5 drug lords are persons of interest composed of Chinese nationals, Philippine National Police  officials, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology officials, and local government officials, Calida said. 
 
“Our President will divulge their identities in succeeding press conferences,” Calida said. 
Commenting on Lim, Mr. Duterte warned him about returning to the country. 
 
“The moment he steps out of the plane, he will die. That is my assurance to the people of the Philippines. How? Never mind. He should just not return here,” Mr. Duterte said. 
 
He also warned Co and Colangco against escaping from prison. “You will die,” he said.
