PHL, Brunei to collaborate vs. illegal drugs
The Philippines and Brunei will soon work together in a campaign against illegal drugs.

In his part of the joint statement with President Rodrigo Duterte, Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah said both nations would benefit if they cooperate against illegal drugs.

"We also look forward to our future collaboration in addressing issues on drugs. We believe that both sides will benefit from the exchanges of expertise and best practices in this area," he said in a statement after his expanded bilateral meeting with Duterte in MalacaƱang.

Bolkiah reiterated this during a toast at the state banquet.

"We also share your country’s concerns on the devastating effects of drugs upon society and I understand your personal resolve in combating it," he said.

"In this regard, we welcome close collaboration through the exchanges of expertise and best practices in this area," he added.

During the state visit, Bolkiah and Duterte witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on cultural cooperation while the second memorandum is on the development of the halal industry.

They also discussed cooperation on energy, labor, food security, agriculture, education, and finance. Brunei's role in the Mindanao peace process was also raised.

While he was the second leader to visit the country under Duterte, Bolkiah was the first to pay a state visit.
