The eight-year-old boy who was hit several times sharp stones at the center island of Commonwealth Avenue succumbed to his injuries Friday, Cesar Apolinario reported on 24 Oras.

The child, who has yet to be identified by family, suffered a blood clot on his head and deep wounds on his cheeks, forehead and mouth.

His loved ones have yet to show up at the hospital.

While a supposed cousin told authorities that his name was RJ, the boy has been given the name Boy X while they wait for identification.

Nilo Padulaga of the Quezon City Police District.

The suspect, identified as 32 year-old Rogelio Barcena, could now face murder charges instead of frustrated murder, aside from his illegal possession of a bladed weapon charges.

The suspect beat up the child after he was reportedly irked because he was teased by the victim and companions.

A witness saw the suspect hitting the child using three large rocks while on a center island in Barangay Commonwealth in Quezon City.

Barcena did not deny that he hit the child but insisted that it was the minors who started it all.

"Kasalanan niya yun," an apparently remorseless Barcena said when told of the boy's death.
