Last Wednesday, April 12, President Rodrigo Duterte arrived at the Bahrain International Airport to conduct his three-day state visit to the Bahrain Kingdom.
According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Bahrain is home to about 600,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFW).
Duterte is slated to visit the Middle East this Holy Week, particularly Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.
The source cited that he was initially welcomed by Alfonso Ver, who is the Philippine's ambassador to the kingdom of Bahrain.
Among the ones who also welcomed him were embassy officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Ali Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
Duterte will have a private lunch as hosted by the royal highness, Shiekh Ali Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. He would also be receiving an Official Welcome Ceremony at the Sakhir Palace on Thursday evening.
Duterte will also conduct a bilateral meeting to witness the signing of five agreements which includes the plantation expansion deal of the country in Dacanay City.
Apart from that, the president will also be having an official dinner at the palace. His last day will include a meeting with Crown Prince Salman Bin Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa at the Bahrain International Court.
Finally, Duterte is also expected to meet the Filipino communities in the kingdom of Bahrain at the Khalifa Sports Complex. It is estimated by the source that around 4,000 Filipinos would be present.
The Facebook fan page of the Presidential Communications (Government of the Philippines) uploaded the footage of Duterte arriving at Bahrain.
According to the description, “This is the second leg of the President’s Middle East trip that aims to renew friendly relations between the two nations.”
