PNP ready to deploy additional security for ex-Pres. Noynoy Aquino

The Philippine National Police expressed readiness to deploy additional security personnel for former President Benigno Aquino III following the order of communist rebels to indict and arrest him for crimes against humanity.

“As a former President, meron po siyang detailed security, if there's a need to reinforce the number, we’re more than willing to provide additional security,” PNP spokesperson Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos said in a press conference.

He said they have yet to receive a request from the camp of Aquino for additional security.

“Wala pa po(ng request), we have PSPG (Police Security and Protection Group), ‘yan po ‘yung main national support unit tasked to provide police protective detail for VIPs like former President Aquino,” he said.

But even in the absence of any request, Carlos said the PNP can still provide additional security if they see a threat to a person.

“If there’s a threat, a threat assessment will be made, we will take the necessary measure. Kahit naman po kami di nahainan ng request at may assessment kami, we will take action,” he said.

However, as of now, they have yet to get any threat assessment that would require their action.

Last week, the National Democratic Front (NDF) in Southern Mindanao said its "revolutionary government... effectively prescribed the arrest" of Aquino, North Cotabato Gov. Emmylou TaliƱo-Mendoza, Kidapawan City Mayor Joseph Evangelista, North Cotabato Representative Nancy Catamco, and several other government and civilian personalities, as well as military and police officials.

"The People’s Democratic Government found compelling evidence that the 'gross neglect and apathy and willful acts and/of omissions' of the named-respondents violated the fundamental rights of the civilians guaranteed in international tenets, covenants and instruments,” the communist group said.

The announcement was made on the first anniversary of the violent dispersal of at least 6,000 farmers in Kidapawan City on April 1, 2016. Two persons were killed and over a dozen were hurt as policemen arrested and dispersed the protesting farmers.
